Shark attacks surfer in Brazil
This news taken from www.eitb24.com:
A shark attacked a 23-year-old surfer Sunday in a northeastern city who was surfing in waters that have been declared off-limits by authorities.
Antonio Carvalho was attacked while surfing off of Boa Viagem beach in Recife, some 1,300 miles (2,100 kilometer) northeast of Sao Paulo, firefighters said.
Gleison Sena of the Pernambuco state fire department said that Carvalho suffered injuries to his left calf and foot but that his life was not at risk.
Sena said that Carvalho was surfing in a high risk area, where there were ample warning signs to keep surfers away due to the frequent shark attacks.
Shark attacks are a fairly common phenomenon off the beaches around Recife, where sharks like to feed past a large offshore coral reef.
Carvalho was the 48th person to suffer a shark attack in Pernambuco state since 1992. Seventeen of those attacks were fatal.
